Linux Laptops And NotebooksA range of fully-supported laptops with GNU/Linux pre-installed, and laptop functions (hibernate, external monitor, laptop function keys, etc) set up. The no-hassle way to Linux on your laptop.
IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad and 3000 Linux Laptops and NotebooksWe sell three basic models of the legendary Thinkpad, all pre-built with Linux:
And for sheer value for money:
Each model is available with a variety of options: the starting point is to have the machine pre-configured with Ubuntu 7.10, then there are options for having SUSE 10.2 instead, dual-booting with Windows (XP or Vista according to availability), and the usual add-ons like extra memory, USB floppy and DVD drives, etc. We regret that we do not accept orders for laptop computers from outside the UK. NotesTo avoid any confusion, the prices for all our laptops include VAT at 17.5% as well as postage within the UK. The price you see is what you pay. There are no hidden extras. Lenovo, like many other laptop manufacturers are continuously improving and changing detail specifications. Whilst we endeavour to keep the specifications on this site up-to-date and reflecting availability, at times the machine we supply may differ slightly from the details listed here, for example you may get a bigger disk or different wireless card, always set up and working with our default Ubuntu install. If you must have a particular configuration, for example a particular wireless card to run on a different Linux distribution, please check with us when you order. Processor SpeedsWe've been asked about the apparently slow clock speeds of Mobile processors. Well, it's said that 2.00Ghz on a mobile is roughly equivalent to a much higher speed, say 2.6 Ghz on a standard Pentium. I don't know about that, but remember that processor speed isn't everything. All I know is that my three year old T41, with a 1.7Ghz Mobile, runs a disk- and compute-intensive job in about 28 minutes compared with about 22 minutes on an x-Series server with 3Ghz Pentium 4 and SATA disks. Buying by Debit or Credit CardIt is not uncommon for your bank to decline large online purchases. This is a measure to protect you. If you experience this problem while ordering a laptop from us, please telephone your bank or credit card provider to authorise the transaction, and resubmit your order. Following a spate of credit card frauds, we will only accept credit card orders from the registered card address, for delivery to that address. If you have a genuine reason for delivery to a different address (eg to your place of work) please give us a phone call. Asus EeePC Laptop (4Gb)£229.95Rumour has it that a delivery might be made later this week (WC 7th April 2008), we're not holding our breath, once we have confirmation one way or the other we'll update the site. Stock has once again run out. We have more on order but no confirmed delivery date. Reserve now. This little gem is a masterpiece: Asus have got the specification just right and produced a truly portable laptop with full functionality. It is pre-loaded with a customised version of Xandros, with a very neat 'Easy' interface making it really easy to use. It's capable of running three or four applications at once, for example word processing, browser and pdf reader. Geek Alert: it's really easy to change the configuration of the EeePC to provide a full KDE desktop, and we provide a few notes to help you do this. The solid state disk filing system is set up in a Union file system, with the main system being read only, and user data being stored in a read-write partition. There is a Factory Restore option which will wipe the read-write part and restore the system to its original state: Just right if you're experimenting. Please note: the EeePC we are stocking is the 4GB storage version: some EeePC's available elsewhere may have the 2Gb solid state disk: make sure that what you are getting is clear.

Notebook Optical Mouse£9.99Do you hate the trackpoint pointers or touchpads used for the mouse function on most laptops? If you do, then you'll want this notebook optical mouse whose small form factor makes it ideal for travel. Thanks to the optical design it is practically maintenance free and is ideal for use on any surface with optical texture. Features:
PCMCIA 56K hardware modem£36.00From time to time you might need to revert to dial up on your laptop. If you do, this neat little PCMCIA modem is just what you need. Unlike built in winmodems using the linuxant driver, this one is a 'proper' modem, isn't speed restricted and won't stop working after a kernel upgrade. SuSE 10.3 instead of Ubuntu£44.00Please note that we provide a default install of the SUSE 10.3 boxed set, with no customisation. This will result in a very nice system on most Thinkpads (most of the SUSE developers use Thinkpads themselves). On a Lenovo 3000 you will find that some of the specialist laptop functions (eg hibernate function key) are not operational although the install is in all other ways perfectly satisfactory. Please call us if you have any queries. Targus Carry Case and Optical Mouse£19.95This neat Targus carry case will accommodate up to 15.4" laptops and comes bundled with an optical mouse.
