VOIP and Asterisk Introductory Course

The course is intended to give an overview of the use of Voice over IP and to provide hands-on experience of IP phones and their use with the Asterisk PBX.

At the end of the course attendees will be familiar with the essentials of Voice over IP and with the basic configuration of the Asterisk PBX and IP telephones. They will also understand the use, features and management of an Asterisk-based telephone system.

The course contains a mix of presentations and hands-on sessions. Each student has an IP phone and work-station to use during the workshops. A variety of IP phones and ATA's including models from Snom, Linksys and UTStar will be available.

• VoIP Overview
• Hardware: Analogue adapters, IP telephones
• Asterisk and installing using Trixbox
• Managing Asterisk with FreePBX
• Softphones
• Setting up SIP extensions
• Trunks and Routing
• Simple Dial Plans
• Using Information Providers
• Using and Managing Asterisk including Voicemail, MeetMe, the Operator Panel, Voice Recording and ACD Functions

No previous experience of computer systems, telephony or Voice Over IP is required.
