Value CDs and DVDs : Support

Cheap CDs and DVDs are copies of software available on the Internet. We don't offer support of any kind with these CDs and DVDs, you are paying for a copying service, hence the cheap prices. Each CD is supplied in a paper sleeve and DVDs are supplied in DVD cases or clam shells.

We use top quality CD and DVD blanks from Tayio Yuden (the inventors of the CD-R) and Sony. This results in a very low level of defects. This is no consolation if you happen to be the person who gets a duff CD so we will replace, free of charge, any CD or DVD which has a media fault.

We don't make any guarantee about the software contained on the CDs or DVDs though. If there are bugs, then you have the freedom (hence the "free software" label) to fix it yourself, or even pay someone else to fix it for you.

If you do need support, for example because your business depends on it, then we suggest looking at the enterprise level distributions from SuSE and Red Hat, or consider paying for support from a consultancy such as ourselves or www.hands.com.

If you are new to Linux and looking to try out our cheap CDs and DVDs, then you have two basic choices. You can either try a CD from our Live CD's section which will allow you to try Linux without installing anything, or the General Distributions section contains all the major (and a number of minor) distributions. If you take this route, we recommend that you also purchase a book about your selected distribution (if you are not already familiar with it) as the instructions on the CDs themselves are often rather brief.

Which distribution to choose? Well often the answer to this is simply "the one which someone you know uses". All the major distributions carry pretty much the same set of packages with some being more uptodate than others at any particular point in time. Alternativley you could try out a number of them with our Linux Pack in the compilation section.
